First-Year applicants should:

  • complete at least 16 units of secondary school credit and
  • receive a diploma from an accredited secondary school.

It is recommended that students follow a university preparatory program that includes:

  • at least four units of study in English,
  • three units in social studies,
  • three units in mathematics,
  • three units in science, and
  • two in a foreign language.

Please note: First-Year applicants must submit an official transcript showing of date of graduation from high school. (Must be submitted by the start of the first semester.)

Equivalency diplomas

Applicants submitting a high school equivalency diploma are not required to have completed 16 secondary school units; however, they must have earned equivalency scores that indicate adequate preparation for university level work.

Please also provide:

  • Explanation (in English) of transcript grading system, and
  • Proof of English proficiency (if English is not your first language)
    • Pearson Test of English (PTE), minimum score of 53; or
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 written, 213 computer-based, 79-80 internet-based;
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0; or
    • Duolingo English Test (DET) score of 100.

When To Apply

Utica University uses rolling admissions: applications will be accepted until programs are filled. We encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible. Decisions are mailed within 2-3 weeks of a completed application for admission.

Since many programs will be fully enrolled by March, you are encouraged to apply by January 15. Deposit deadline is May 1 or 20 days from the date of admission, whichever is later.

  • Apply no later than December 15 if you plan to start in the January term.
  • Apply by February 1 to be considered for our nursing program.
  • Apply by January 15 for HEOP eligibility.

Early Decision

You can choose early decision when you apply to Utica University. Here is how it works:

  • Apply by November 1 to Utica University.
  • Receive an admission decision by December 15th.
  • Agree to attend the institution if accepted and offered a financial aid package that is considered adequate by the family.
  • Apply to only one university early decision.
  • Apply to other colleges or universities under regular admission plans.
  • Withdraw all other applications if accepted by ED.
  • Send a non-refundable deposit by January 6.

Early Action

Early Action is similar to Early Decision, except that it is non-binding. It offers two options:
 
  • Early Action 1:  Application Deadline November 15  - Decision by Dec. 15th
  • Early Action 2:  Application deadline December 15 - Decision by Jan. 1st

A substantial amount of student aid comes from scholarships and grants available directly through the University. This type of aid can significantly reduce your cost of attendance. Utica University has more than 300 scholarships and achievement awards. We also offer a selection of tuition payment plans.

FILE FOR AID

To get the aid process in motion, file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov. [Note: Now you can file your FAFSA as early as October 1.] Use this application to apply for all kinds of federal student aid, including Pell Grants, various types of student loans, and student employment aid.Submitting your FAFSA also begins the process of determining your eligibility for receiving direct aid from Utica University. Please note:

  • The FAFSA opens each year on October 1.
  • Utica University has established no deadline or priority date for the FAFSA to be completed. Applicants may file on a rolling basis.
  • Prospective students will receive notification of their financial aid award package two weeks after being accepted into Utica University and filing the FAFSA. 

What you will need for your FAFSA:

  • Utica University's federal school code: 002883
  • Your social security number and your parents’ social security numbers (if needed)
  • Your driver’s license (if you have one)
  • Your alien registration number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
  • Last year’s federal income tax forms, information about untaxed income (such as Social Security, TANF, or veterans benefits), and information about savings, investments and farm assets for yourself, your spouse (if you’re married), and your parents (if you’re including parent information)

Residents of New York: Apply for N.Y. State student aid at tap.hesc.ny.gov.

New York State offers several options for state residents, including:

  • the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP),
  • the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), and
  • the Collegiate Science and Technology Program (CSTEP).
  • New York's Enhanced Tuition Award program, which offers up to an additional $6,000 in tuition assistance to New York state residents.

Financial assistance:

Limited financial assistance is available for non-U.S. citizens.

  • Financial awards are granted on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and do not require a separate application. 
  • Private loans are available to students with either a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident as a co-signer.
  • Limited student worker positions are also available on campus.
